Camel treks
Who better to lead you on a desert adventure than an animal that’s perfectly adapted to the environment? Climb aboard a camel in Eilat and it will take you on a sure-footed ride into the rugged beauty of the surrounding landscape.
At Eilat’s Camel Ranch you can choose to take one of 35 camels on a half day excursion (four hours), sunset excursion (two hours) or shorter tours at other times. Children needn’t miss out either – they can ride with a parent on family trips. Donkey chariot rides, buggy excursions and tailor-made mountain biking trips offer other fun ways to hit the desert trail.
Camel Riders, based at the Shaharut Inn, North of Eilat, will take you treking along the cliffs overlooking the Great Rift Valley with views to the Edom Mountains. Tour lengths vary from two hours to half day (four hour) excursions to four or six day treks with overnights in local accommodation. 4x4 trips are also available. You can even learn to thump out a rhythm on a traditional drum at one of Shaharut Inn’s musical workshops.
Whether you’re camel riding or not, both operators offer feasting fun at Bedouin hospitality experiences. Book a dinner under the stars and you can be entertained by belly dancers, musicians and story-tellers as you eat traditional food while lounging on rugs and mattresses.
